League of Cities
The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization
representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its
mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity,
leadership, and governance.Working in partnership with 49 state municipal
leagues, NLC serves as a national resource to and an advocate for
the more than 18,000 cities, villages, and towns it represents.

Association of Counties
NACo, the only national organization that represents county governments
in the United States, is a full-service organization that provides an
extensive line of services including legislative, research, technical,
and public affairs assistance, as well as enterprise services to its members.
Georgia
Municipal Association
The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) is the only state organization
that represents municipal governments in Georgia. Based in Atlanta, GMA
is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy,
educational, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its
members. GMA's membership currently totals more than 485 municipal governments,
accounting for more than 99% of the state's municipal population. A 56-member
Board of Directors, composed of city officials, governs GMA. Program implementation
is charged to the Executive Director and staff of 60-70 full-time employees.

County Commissioners of Georgia
The Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) is a nonprofit
instrumentality of Georgia's county governments. Formed in 1914 with 19
charter county members, today ACCG serves as the consensus-building, training,
and legislative organization for all 159 county governments in the state.

Public Management Association for Human Resources
IPMA-HR is an organization that represents the interests of over 5,000
human resource professionals at the Federal, State and Local levels of
government. The organization exists to provide information and assistance
to public sector HR professionals in order to help them do their jobs
better. Many public agencies have experienced layoffs and budget cuts,
and our mission is to provide them with cost effective tools.

City/County Management Association (ICMA)
ICMA is the professional and educational organization for chief appointed
managers, administrators, and assistants in cities, towns, counties, and
regional entities throughout the world. Since 1914, ICMA has provided
technical and management assistance, training, and information resources
to its members and the local government community. The management decisions
made by ICMA's nearly 8,000 members affect more than 100 million individuals
in thousands of communities--from small towns with populations of a few
hundred to metropolitan areas serving several million.
Georgia
Department of Community Affairs (DCA)
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) was created in 1977
to serve as an advocate for local governments. On July 1, 1996, the Governor
and General Assembly merged the Georgia Housing and Finance Authority
(GHFA) with the Department of Community Affairs. Today, the newly expanded
DCA operates a host of state and federal grant programs; serves as the
state's lead agency in housing finance and development; promulgates building
codes to be adopted by local governments; provides comprehensive planning,
technical and research assistance to local governments; and serves as
the lead agency for the state's solid waste reduction efforts.

Vinson Institute of Government
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government has been part of the University
of Georgia's public service and outreach program for more than 75 years.
The Institute works to improve the quality of life for all Georgians through
an extensive program of instruction, technical assistance, research, and
publications for governments and communities.
